We just got back from the amazing KubeCon 2024 in Delhi, India, and we’re excited to share everything we learned, experienced, and look forward to in the cloud-native world.
What’s the Buzz in the Community?
KubeCon India 2024 was a melting pot of innovation, ideas, and collaboration. Developers, engineers, and companies came together to find new ways to make Kubernetes simpler, more cost-effective, and user-friendly. This year’s big talking points? Reducing complexity and cutting cloud costs — two major pain points for teams managing Kubernetes at scale.
The event was packed with real-world stories, practical solutions, and a glimpse into what’s next for cloud-native tech. It was incredible to see the community come together, exchanging tips and success stories from companies across the globe.
From our perspective at PerfectScale, we heard one topic come up over and over: managing Kubernetes bills. Many teams still track costs manually, which takes too much time and leads to mistakes. That’s where PerfectScale’s cost optimization platform comes in, offering an easy way to track usage, analyze costs, and make smarter financial decisions—all automatically.
Key Takeaways from KubeCon India
Here’s what stood out the most during our time at KubeCon:
1. Cutting Kubernetes Costs is a Must-Have, Not a Nice-to-Have
Cloud bills are still shocking companies, especially those new to Kubernetes’ unpredictable nature. Attendees shared their frustration with manual cost tracking and the difficulty of breaking down where the money goes.
We heard this a lot: “We need something automated, clear, and proactive.” That’s exactly what PerfectScale’s platform does. By helping teams track usage and identify cost-saving opportunities, it takes the guesswork out of cloud spending.
2. AI and LLMs are Taking Over the Kubernetes World
There’s a growing buzz around AI-driven workloads in Kubernetes, especially large language models (LLMs) that are resource-hungry and costly to run. Companies are asking, “How can we control costs without slowing down AI innovation?”
PerfectScale’s cost optimization platform helps solve this by improving how AI workloads are scheduled. This makes sure GPU and compute resources are used efficiently, cutting costs while keeping AI experiments running smoothly. 3. Cell-Based Architecture is Changing the Way We Scale
One of the most popular sessions at KubeCon was on Cell-Based Architecture. The idea is simple but powerful: instead of managing one big system, you break it into smaller, self-contained “cells” that can be managed separately.
This approach makes Kubernetes setups more scalable, resilient, and multi-tenant-friendly. The talk showed how Kubernetes and Istio’s mutual TLS can keep cells secure while using API gateways to control communication between them. Many attendees walked away with clear, actionable steps to try it in their own environments.
4. Looking Back at 10 Years of Cloud-Native Evolution
A standout keynote from Nikhita Raghunath, Principal Software Engineer at Broadcom, took us through 10 years of cloud-native evolution. Her talk, “The Cloud Native Story So Far: What Worked, What Didn’t, and What Will!”, reflected on how teams have tackled issues like observability, production outages, and cost management.
Her message? “The struggle is real, but it’s all part of the journey.” As Kubernetes continues to grow, so will the tools and practices around it. Nikhita emphasized that the future of Kubernetes tools will be all about simplicity and accessibility — something we’re also prioritizing at PerfectScale.
PerfectScale at KubeCon India
For us at PerfectScale, KubeCon India 2024 was an incredible chance to meet with the community and show off our FinOps- cost optimization platform. We had deep conversations with DevOps engineers, SREs, and FinOps teams about their biggest cloud cost challenges.
The most common issue? Teams still use manual tracking to figure out cloud bills. By automating it with PerfectScale, teams can visualize usage, analyze costs, and get recommendations on how to cut spending. Our conversations confirmed that automation is essential for teams looking to move faster and smarter.
Exclusive Interviews with Cloud-Native Leaders
Our team sat down with Mumshad Mannambeth and Abhishek Veeramalla to hear their thoughts on the future of Kubernetes, AI, and DevOps. We asked them about:
- GenAI: How it’s used in their workflows and where it’s headed.
- GitOps: The tools they rely on and the challenges they face.
- FinOps: How they optimize costs and what practices work best.
These interviews gave us fresh insights from two of the most respected voices in the industry. We’ll be sharing the full video of these conversations on our LinkedIn soon — stay tuned!
